Pannonhalma, 5th June, 2009

The Hungarian Tourism Office (Magyar Turizmus Zrt), ITD Hungary (Hungarian Trade and Development Agency) and the Hungarian Wine Marketing Agency have joined forces in order to boost the international popularity of Hungarian wine and wine tourism. The parties signed a strategic cooperation agreement on June 5th, 2009 at the gala event of the Pannon National Wine Competition in Pannonhalma. According to the agreement, the three organisations will act collectively in: organising promotional and international market development events; cooperate in the creation and distribution of international publications; and invite wine experts and specialist journalists to Hungary.

The tightening of our cooperation this year is also very appropriate as 2009 is the Year of Cultural Tourism and of course one of the main components of that is gastronomy and wine, - said Dr Ákos Niklai, chairman of the Hungarian Tourism Office.

Richard Nemes, Managing Director of the Hungarian Wine Marketing Agency added that the three organisations have been working together on several projects in the last few years. “It was high time to turn this into a higher level cooperation and place it within the framework of a detailed and binding agreement. The cooperation is a milestone in the bid to popularise Hungarian wines, - he said.
