4-6 November 2009, Hong Kong - International Wine & Spirits
Fair
Hong Kong is a mature wine market itself where citizens are
looking for new wine experiences, though our wines are already
there. January to September import figures showed that Hong Kong's
wine imports are soaring; they were up 87% over the same period in
2007. After a successful appearance at the inaugural event in 2008,
which attracted 8,758 trade visitors from 55 countries and regions,
and 10,096 public visitors, we are more than happy to return in
2009. Hong Kong's role as the wine trading and distribution hub of
Asia was boosted recently by the removal of duty on wine, making
Hong Kong the only major economy to have no wine duties and no
sales tax. By 2012, the Asian market (excluding Japan) is estimated
to double, reaching US$17 billion in value and rising by 10 to 20%
each year. By 2017 its worth is estimated to reach US$27 billion.
The Chinese mainland and Hong Kong comprise more than 60% of Asia's
wine market and will become the world's eighth largest market.
